Coastal Cycling Cruise

Today is the day we decided to take the bikes out. The plan was to do a 50 mile ride going up and over Laureles Canyon, Fort Ord, Laguna Seca, to Marina. Getting on the Monterey Recreational Trail along the coast (Monterey, Seaside, Pacific Grove) to the 17-Mile Drive to Carmel and Carmel Valley.
We ended up with 56 miles after some route finding, but all in all a good ride!

Not the most auspicious way to start the ride... 6 miles in Jim got a flat....

Laureles Grade Summit is the lowest in elevation summits (a breathtaking 1284ft or 391meters we have been on. But there were some spots that were 18% gradient! ouch! And it got worse as we passed Laguna Seca raceway. 20%!
After riding through the fog the sun pops out along the coast and we can see the water.

Boats in the Monterey Bay
The Lone Cypress along the 17 Mile Drive. The fog was rolling in again.... seemed to follow us on this ride!
TSK looking out the window as Jim put the bikes away. He seems to be having a good time on our trip. As he spends his day napping, not riding a bike.

Tomorrow we will see our friend Veronica and she's going to show us around the area of Carmel-By-The-Sea and Carmel Valley.
